The Beauty and the Tragedy

"You're Supposed to Be My Best Friend."

When People say it's Christmas, you would usually think about gifts. Receiving. But maybe for Katelyn, Giving is really better than to receive. Even if a lot of pain comes with it.

It was a normal Wednesday morning. The students had an assembly. The Sub- Unit Head organizing a 'Pet Talk' with the grade six students at around 2:30 pm.

Classes had gone as usual. Recess time. Halley came to Katelyn, convincing her to come with the group later on that day. Katelyn knew the reason, it was for her to at least try playing Warcraft.

Katelyn said no. Halley came rushing out the door and entered through the other one. Coming directly to Doyle. And. Screaming "Doyle! Katelyn's coming!" Doyle sure became happy. A new possible member for their group. Katelyn then didn't have the chance to well, decline. Trying it once won't hurt right? she thought.

Tricia on the other hand, ate lunch with her. Like what she normally does. Then Katelyn would go buy food. For her and for Tricia. It had been their agreement that Katelyn would treat Tricia if she would go with her and buy lunch. Tricia tried changing Katelyn's mind. Telling her she might get caught. Katelyn told her she'll just try. Once. That's it.

2:30pm. The students. Grade 6 students lined up outside their classrooms and proceeded to the Big AVR. Their Sub-unit head teacher discussing their usual violations in the school regulations. It took an hour for her to actually finish. An hour which felt like years. So boring. Katelyn actually felt like sleeping.

3:30pm. The grade 6 students were dismissed. Katelyn bid goodbye to Tricia. She went with Halley to Doyle's school bus. There, Doyle collected money. From Katelyn, Halley, Matt, Patrick, Mason, and Evan. After collecting money amounting to 140. Doyle talked to his bus driver. Telling him he would go to some tutorial like place. Together with his six friends.

Before they even entered the bus, they bought drinks. Alison Quentin, Kimberleigh and Anna came to them and asked where they were going. Well, they told the truth. Trusting their classmates. They rode the bus. As the bus left the school grounds, Katelyn sat beside Halley.

The bus stopped right in front of the center. Katelyn asked Halley to try holding her hand. "It's cold-" then touched the softrdink Katelyn held on her other hand. "Colder than the drink." Katelyn usually had cold hands when she's about to experience something bad.

She felt so nervous. Like her legs were somewhat wobbly as she stepped forward to the shop just above the center. They all went inside. Doyle, entered first and immediately said "Exact. 7!" Katelyn saw that there were only 7 computers left. Exact for them. Doyle gave the money he collected to a girl. Katelyn sat between Doyle and Halley. Doyle was going to teach her. He gave her the codename Xangel_kissX. The battle started.

Katelyn kept on dying. Not actually knowing what's happening. Plus. Mason kept on killing her.

Ten minutes or so. Halley whispered something to Katelyn. Tried not to make her voice sound worried and panicky but she obviously was "Katelyn, Ms. Norbury's there with the SUH." Katelyn said the same to Doyle. Until everyone knew and they actually looked at their adviser.

Ms. Norbury asked them to move out of the computer shop. They did and sat at the bench found outside. Katelyn started crying. Even Halley. They are girls after all. Even though the boys were able to keep their composure, the two girls couldn't they just had to cry it out.

Their teacher talked to them. Halley on the other hand apologized to Katelyn. "Sorry. It's my fault. I shouldn't have forced you." Her eyes easily turned red. Katelyn, crying as well told her "It's not your fault."

They rode a tricycle. Then went to the benches near the trees. Their adviser Ms. Norbury talked to them. Katelyn sat beside Halley. On her other side Mason. Ms. Norbury asked for a diary. Katelyn volunteered to get hers. But because of everything that's happening actually broke the cover.

When she came back, the teacher took the diary and flipped the pages. She looked for the rules. Found the 7 kids' violation. She talked some sense into them. "Do you guys know what would happen? You Matt, Mason, Halley. You'll be out of the honor students. You'll be graduating. You Patrick, your application for your school of choice might be affected. As for you Doyle, you might get kicked out of being a varsity player." Katelyn didn't know what to feel. Beside her Halley sat, blaming herself. Thinking about Katelyn when she should be thinking about her parents' reactions. Katelyn had nothing to lose. For now.

Katelyn continued crying. When someone told her "Stop crying" Katelyn felt irritated knowing who said that she turned her head towards him "Why do you even care?" Then faced Ms. Norbury again. Mason didn't say a word after that.

Doyle and Patrick both stood up and went to Ms. Norbury asking if they could take all the punishments since they started it. But the teacher said, everyone had an offense. Wearing their uniforms. Even if it is someone's first time, they still disobeyed a rule. Everyone needs to face the consequences of their actions.

The students were called inside the SUH's office. Ms. Norbury came too. The teacher talked about the offense and the possible people she might contact to inform the sad news. As for Katelyn, her sister, Kaye. Speaking of that, how could she inform her parents?

The SUH asked them to write an essay narrating what happened.

Katelyn didn't actually understand the instructions. Thinking about things. Like how her friends were willing to take the punishment. How they're blaming themselves. So she asked the person next to her. Who happens to be Mason. That's when he told her "I came because you came" "why?" "Because.. It might be fun to have a new player in the group."

Now, not only did Katelyn feel so bad that Halley's blaming herself. She felt worse hearing that Mason got into this mess because of her.

During the whole conversation with the SUH. Doyle actually blurted out that he thinks it's Tricia's doing. Telling their plan to the teachers. Katelyn and Kalley immediately opposed. "Tricia won't ever do that. She's so kind."

The teachers promised to keep it confidential among the students. So to do that, they sent the seven kids out the office one by one. Katelyn was the second to the last. Last was Mason.

Katelyn saw Eric Lyndon. He said "It was Tricia." Okay. That confirms it all. It was Tricia's doing.

Katelyn snapped. Falling onto the ground. Kneeling. Crying harder. She didn't actually mind that she was there at like, the middle of the place. Kneeling on a rocky surface and crying. Halley held her hand. Mason did too. They both helped her get up. Katelyn couldn't get up, or better yet, didn't want to stand up. Her supposedly best friend, betraying her?

She looked at the office. And unfortunately saw Tricia. That's some torturing she's been experiencing.

She came to her school bus. Still crying. But just stared out the window.

She came home. Went straight to her room. She looked at herself in the mirror. Her eyes were red. From crying.

The phone rang. She answered it. "Hello." Katelyn said. Her voice a little shaky from crying. "Hello." Tricia said on the other line, her voice sent chills down Katelyn's spine.

"Hello? Katelyn? I'm so sorry. I just had to do that. Because God didn't want you to do that again." Hearing this made tears start falling down Katelyn's cheeks.

"Don't include God's name here." Katelyn said, raising her pitch high. "They would actually lose something. What they worked hard for!"

"But, I couldn't help it. You joined them." "And so, you mean to say it's my fault now? I can't believe I actually never thought about you doing this. You're supposed to be my best friend. Why would you do this?" "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I was just worried." They ended the conversation there.

Katelyn continued crying non- stop. Which made her eyes look like they were bleeding. Being red and all. She went online and, Nigel Ashcroft, Halley's crush im-ed her.

NigelAshcroft: is it true you got caught?

Wow. Even someone from a different section knew.

KFields: Halley.
HalleyBrandon: Hey. I'm sorry.
KFields: It's not your fault.

They chatted. Until Katelyn received a text message. From Alison. Rumored to have told the teachers about Katelyn and the others.

",katelyn, sorry, just ask doyle about what i did. i didn't tell. i'm sorry about what happened. hope you forgive me. don't worry, i'll talk to ms. norbury. i'll try my best. sorry. i know that you don't have a best friend anymore, even though you don't treat me like how you treat tricia, i know you'll do everything not to put her in danger. i just wanted to say sorry. maybe, tricia did something very horrible but i know you're kind. just follow your heart. i'm really sorry. btw, what about our tle? tricia can't do it. she's been crying since a while ago. anyway, if you don't reply, its okay. i just want you to know that i'm sorry and goodluck tomorrow."

Katelyn didn't know what to do about the next day she'll have to go to school. Face her classmates and her friends. The other six who practically got into this mess because of her. Especially Tricia, who happened to be the person she thought was her best friend. Someone she could count on and trust.

Maybe trusting people is just not always good. Trust could break you into many pieces.
